School board approves contract, seeks school board member
The NBAPS conducted its Thursday, May 14, business meeting remotely at 5:30 p.m. The agenda included the approval of incoming superintendent Sara Paul's contract, a discussion about spring season coaches pay, and more. Superintendent's report: The superintendent's report included an update on this spring's distance learning, information about drainpipe that needs replacement near the middle school and bordering the city's Hemingway Ave project, and a summary of a recent ECMECC (The East Central Minnesota Education Cable Cooperative) technology study, which can be found in the meeting materials.
Superintendent contract: The school board approved incoming superintendent Sara Paul's contract unanimously.
School board vacancy timeline: A timeline was set for filling the school board seat left open with the resignation of school board member Darryl Goebel. Those interested in serving on the school board can call Arle Chambers at 651-674-1011 for more information and an application. Applications are due back in the district office by June 10. Interviews will be conducted on June 11 with the appointment made at the Regular School Board meeting on June 11, 2020.
Coaches pay: Following lengthy discussion, the school board voted 3-2 to not pay coaches second half payments due to the MSHSL's cancellation of the spring sports season. The motion also included bringing the agenda item back to the June school board meeting with additional information.
In other news: The school board set June 11, 5:30 p.m. for the annual hearing on student fees, entered into a girls hockey cooperative Between North Branch Area High School, St. Francis High School, and Cambridge-Isanti High School, approved a letter of agreement regarding Q-Comp, considered tenure for several teachers, entered into a lease with SCRED for the Chisago County Schools' Life Work Center, And waived the portion of the attendance policy dealing with absences and grade reductions. The school board will meet in closed session following the Thursday, June 11 meeting to discuss negotiations.
