North Branch Area Public Schools (NBAPS) is proud to announce that current North Branch Area Middle School (NBAMS) Assistant Principal Kelly Detzler will serve as the school’s Interim Principal starting July 1, 2019. Current Principal Todd Tetzlaff will become the school district’s Director of Business Services starting the same date.
“We are very proud of Kelly and the staff support we have received for this change has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Supt. Deb Henton.
Detzler has served as the middle school asst. principal since October of 2010. Prior to arriving at NBAMS, Detzler worked for St. Paul Public Schools teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade for 12 years. Tetzlaff has served as the middle school principal since 2003.
This change in leadership is part of the school district’s plan to create budget savings for the 2019-20 school year. The position of Director of Finance and Human Resources, currently held by Jon Ellerbusch, will be discontinued at the end of the 2018-19 fiscal year. Supt. Deb Henton will assume the human resources aspect of the position and Tetzlaff the financial aspect in the new position “Director of Business Services.” Ellerbusch will be leaving the school district at the end of the year to assume the superintendency at Barnesville Public Schools.
Rather than hire a replacement to assume the position of asst. principal at the middle school, existing administrative staff have been reassigned to cover the role. Assistant Principals Glen Stevens (high school), and Rebecca Johnson (Sunrise), along with Community Education Director Brett Carlson, will all provide assistant principal support at the middle school.
“This solution offered the school district the opportunity to save administrative costs,” said Henton. “Those savings positively impact our ability to preserve more staff at the building level.”
