When there is a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a school building, all staff and families from that building will be notified.
General notification is intended to alert members of the school community to monitor for symptoms of illness. The notification also provides clarity that staff and students that have not been identified as close contacts do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, a person should stay home and consult with their health care provider to determine if medical evaluation is needed.
It is important for all members of the school community to know that according to MDH:
Family members of a close contact are allowed to continue attending school as long as they are free of symptoms.
The risk of exposure for people not identified as close contacts, but present in the building is no greater than the risk of contracting the virus in the general community.
We cannot share details about the status of the affected person.
By proactively informing members of the school community of a lab confirmed test of COVID-19, we can all work in partnership to keep our school community safe.
Close Contact Notification Process - What to Expect
If your student is identified as a close contact you can expect the following communications.
Initial Phone call: Today, North Branch Area Public Schools has been notified of a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a member of the North Branch Area Education Center community. We have worked with county and regional public health officials to identify those who may have been in close contact with the person who has COVID-19. Through contact tracing, your child has been identified as a close contact to this individual. Per MDH guidelines, your child will need to stay home from school and all school activities until XXX.
Detailed Information: Additional public health information from MDH and class work information from teacher(s) will be sent home.
Additional Considerations: For privacy reasons, we cannot share details about the status of the person. At this time, they have been advised to stay home and away from other people.
