The elementary math program is aligned to the Minnesota Academic Standards and those provided by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Computational skills, number concepts, and problem solving skills are essential components with emphasis placed on the mastery of basic facts, in relation to four mathematical strands; Numbers and Operations, Algebraic Concepts, Geometry and Measurement, and Data Analysis. Students engage in a variety of hands-on, individual, and collaborative activities as they formulate, analyze, and solve problems proficiently in order to develop a solid foundation for further mathematics education and use in everyday life. It is understood that students use diverse strategies to solve problems and teachers recognize and take advantage of these alternative approaches to help students develop a better understanding of mathematics. Support and enrichment opportunities complement the learning styles and development of all learners.
