NBAMS seventh graders completed a patriotic group art project in preparation for Veterans Day. Each student embellished five paper feathers for the bald eagle, painting two of them brown for the body. Some wrote traits they admire about military members while others wrote down the names of family members who served our country. Many students chose to draw an image to show their admiration as well.

Art teacher, Mrs. Falen, painted the eye and beak, then attached the feathers in place. It took over 325 feathers to fill the cardboard shape! This project was a labor of love to show our respect for all the sacrifices our veterans have made.

NBAMS 6th grade hex 1 art students had the opportunity to create Peace Posters for a contest with the North Branch Lions Club. Art teacher, Lee Ann Falen, and Lions Club member, Bob Olsen, worked together to offer students the challenge of visually representing what the contest theme of "Together as One" could look like.

All 30 art students created posters and the class voted on which projects were the strongest. The 10 that earned the most votes were sent to the Lions Club to narrow down the top three entries.
The final results were:
1st place with $100 prize--Tannar Wolff
2nd place with $75 prize--Grace Wenzel
3rd place with $50 prize--Zia Anderson

The next step is having Tannar’s drawing move on to another round of judging. This is an international contest, so only one project from many countries will be chosen as the overall winner.

Today was Unity Day at NBAMS; the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Participants wear or share orange to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students were provided an orange heart and asked to write examples of how they can support others who have been hurt or harmed, treat others with kindness, be more accepting of people’s differences, or help include those who are left out. Hearts were hung in the main hallway for all to enjoy!

NBAMS 8th grade art students just finished their weaving unit with art teacher, Mrs. Falen. Students worked with a team in their class and learned how to weave on an inkle loom. The "inkle" means "strap", so this loom is designed to weave long, narrow pieces.

Each student chose their own color of warp string to "string up" the inkle loom. They heddled their top warp strands so they could make the opening called the shed, then they wound the weft string around a shuttle to begin the weaving process. Students were surprised by the process and enjoyed how hands-on it was.

A huge thanks to the North Branch Area Education Foundation for generously approving the grant to pay for the inkle looms, shuttles and warp string for our students to use!

Thanks to the City of North Branch, Chisago County SHIP, the NBPD and the NBFD, and all the students and parents for joining us this morning for a rather brisk Walk and Roll to School! It seems like the event gets a bit bigger every time and it's great to see so many faces familiar from previous events.

Today we celebrated the completion of the CR30 project, including new sidewalk from Maple St. to the library, and new crosswalks across CR30, made possible through Safe Routes to School funding doggedly pursued by the city. Many thanks to Community Development Director Nate Sondrol for his work to secure planning and construction funds! You can see all of the photos from the event here: https://www.facebook.com/nbapschools/posts/pfbid02VDcQ5RbEU3RuzjqUHrSv7bVT9FjzMWVBVXP49ig3GDyJLs2UkowVgFyjiCmXQ8F1l

Middle school students were displaying extreme school spirit with face painting for Homecoming last Friday. Popular requests were dots in school colors, radiating lines around the eyes, jersey numbers, eye blacks, crosses and even a few “6-7s”. 😂 NBAMS art teacher, Mrs. Falen, painted at least 150 faces in one day!
