Chisago Age Well cordially invites you to its Thursday, Aug. 13 Dine and Discover event "Alzheimer’s and Dementia: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Caregiver Support" at the Chisago County Senior Center at 9 am (as well as other locations later in the day...see flier).

Registration requested by Aug 7. Call 651-674-1025. To register online: Register through North Branch Community Ed. Click on the flier's QR code to go directly to registration page.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: More than seven million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's disease. One in three older adults dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Nearly 13 million Americans provide unpaid care for a family member or friend with dementia. Good news: The discovery of indicators, called biomarkers, has transformed diagnosis and helped identify dementia risk factors. New treatments slow the disease and allow those in early stages to maintain a more normal life. Our panel members will share current information on preventing, diagnosing, and treating Alzheimer’s and dementia, and resources for caregivers. Questions welcome.

At last night's school board meeting, the board got its first look at the new banners that will grace Viking Way later this summer. The project was made possible by a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council and was led by All Culture Club advisor Pakou Lee, and assisted by art teachers Lee Ann Fallon, Molly Meysembourg, and Sydney Rydberg-Engel.

Students were exposed to cultural art styles such as Hmong Tapestry, American Indian Collage, Hispanic/Latino Mural, and Norwegian Rosemaling, and encouraged to use those styles in their original creations. Many of the projects were made into banners, others will be made into posters, and still others framed.

To see all the banners and lists of those to be posters, and those to be framed, go here: https://tinyurl.com/mwtcfvwj

7th Grade Spanish students at NBAMS spent the last 2 weeks learning about the ethnic cuisines of the different Spanish speaking countries. Then they picked a country to become an expert on and created a food truck to "sell" their authentic foods. They wrapped up the unit by getting to taste a variety of foods from Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Students wanted! You could help paint North Branch's next mural!

Student Mural Paint Day is on June 18, with two session times available at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.

During each session, the muralist will give a brief presentation about the project and their artistic process, followed by an invitation for students to participate in painting the mural. This event is open to all students, and our hope is to inspire creativity and connect young people with public art in our community.

Remember to dress for paint!

NBAMS 6th grade Spanish students spent a week creating games to teach Kindergarten Spanish students basic conversation words. The 6th graders then visited the Ed Center and spent the class period teaching and playing their games with the younger students. As it was such a beautiful day, the classes met outside to learn under the sun. Sounds like fun!

On Friday, Outdoor Adventures went on the finale field trip, white water kayaking on the Kettle River in Sandstone with Hard Water Sports. The students did amazing and had a fantastic time. There were rapids, little alcoves, waterfalls, and cliff jumping. This adventure will hopefully be an experience the students will never forget. Thank you to the North Branch Area Education Foundation for fully funding this amazing experience for all of these students!
