Earlier this month students in Mrs. Cook’s Small Animal Science courses participated in the first annual North Branch Area High School AKC Dog Show. Students were tasked with researching the AKC breed of their choice and creating a life-size 2-D replica of their breed according to the standard of perfection. Students then competed In a bracket-style showdown with others in their class to be awarded the coveted “Best in Show” prize by their peers. Winners were Sevrin B. With his French Bulldog, Kadence S. With her Doberman Pinscher, and Addison L with her Alaskan Malamute. Congratulations!

NBAMS 6th grade Spanish students spent a week creating games to teach Kindergarten Spanish students basic conversation words. The 6th graders then visited the Ed Center and spent the class period teaching and playing their games with the younger students. Sounds like fun!

"Mannequins in Motion" art project! NBAMS 8th grade art students were challenged to free-hand draw 12" tall wooden mannequins with their art teacher, Lee Ann Falen. They chose a theme and had to draw the mannequin twice, posing the figure to suit their chosen theme. Students used white charcoal to add highlight and Ebony pencil to shade, giving the mannequin a more 3-D look. They also used one or more paint "splotches" for the background, putting thought into the color, shape, size and placement of the paint to relate to their theme as well. Students used straws to give the paint a more expressive quality. The creativity of poses, themes and use of paint was incredible!

NBAHS's Dameion Palmer has become the fifth individual in Minnesota to successfully complete the Ford ACE Program. Not only did he achieve this milestone, but he also set a new record for the fastest completion time. Last semester, Vince Crudo completed the program in eight weeks, setting the previous record as the fourth person in the state to do so. Dameion has now surpassed that achievement, completing the program in just six weeks. SKOL! and congratulations to Dameion!

North Branch Area High School is pleased to congratulate senior Dakota Esget - our 2025 Athena Award winner! Esget was one of four senior female athletes nominated by NBAHS head coaches, then selected for the honor based on her outstanding athletic accomplishments by vote from the school's coaching staff. Of Esget, head girls track coach Norm Nagel, said, "As a dedicated student athlete, Dakota has set the standard high in the classroom and in athletics at North Branch High School. Being a 4.0 student and achieving multiple awards and high honors in her time at North Branch makes Dakota one of our top female athletes to wear the Viking red and white. Her dedication and drive to her craft, depending on what season it is far superior to none." Dakota will be attending the University of St. Thomas, majoring in biology. She will be recognized along with 47 other member schools' recipients at the 31st Annual St. Paul Athena Awards event on Wed., April 16.

Students in 8th Grade World Cultures learned how to play Dara, a traditional Nigerian strategy game played across all of Northern Africa. Students learned about how traditions are passed on through storytelling, and that's how this game has been passed from generation to generation. This game is believed to have been created to teach children critical thinking, strategy, and observation skills that could be transferred to hunting and trading situations. In Africa, kids dig a grid in the ground, find some stones and sticks, and play against each other that way. Our students played with paper and colored blocks. It was a hit with everyone!
